Also want to mention that we’ve won several awards with our short movie. One of them was in the category semi-pro. Where we entered the contest in the amateur category…

To not let this post go too waste with only one sentence I want to share some information about some interesting things that happened:

- I now teach 3d to pesky adolescents.
- My sisters neighbour hit my (parked) car. The driver was a man.
- Going to fullfill my obligatory military service in April (for 3 weeks).
- Still working on my portfolio. Expect some new wicked stuff soon.

Meet Billy.

The designs for the rest of Billy’s body haven’t arrived yet. It should come from this site: vyralworks.blogspot.com. It also contains some other drawings that we will be using for this project of ours. More info in the future.

Update: re-rendered to a much smaller format.

Specs: 37secs, 177MB, .mov file. Will re-render to a smaller filesize. Didn’t have the time last night.

“A friend of mine came to visit a while ago. He also brought his bad-ass tank with him..” No just kidding,.. really.

The tank model you see in the image above is actually a retouched model. I had a low-poly of it which you can see here. For this render I’ve added a bit more (not so low-poly) details.

For the lighting I first used Mental Ray, but somehow I couldn’t get the shadows right. I then switched back to the Scanline renderer and the shadow came out much better. After a little retouching in Photoshop this is what I got. I also got much feedback (on the shadows) in this (dutch) forumtopic. That helped a lot.

Note that I didn’t finish rendering all of the frames. Also it goes to fast to see what’s really happening. If you want to take a closer look then I suggest you download the .mov here (~15MB).

*Update*

Rendered a few more frames. The animation lasts a little longer now.

Re-timed the duration of the second render. It should run a bit longer, but because of that, also less smooth.
